SUCCESS PRINCIPLES WITH PINK!!

January 31st, 2010 by yonika in Uncategorized

PINK IS GOLD!!!

During my daily workout in my local gym my mind wondered of.  But all of a sudden my attention was focused to one of the big flat-screen televisions on the wall. There it was. The music video clip from Pink with one of my favoured songs of all time – “Dear Mr President”

Pink (Alecia Beth Moore) born in Doylestown, Pennsylvania has achieved tremendous success within the music industry. Often perceived as rebellious and controversial she was able to find her own direction and had the strength and courage to step away from the ‘herd’.

It is often that rebellious mindset that we can find in successful people. To a certain extend I do believe that rebelliousness (is this a word?) is found in entrepreneurship. The ability to create your own path despite what is considered normal by or society and therefore seen as rebellious and controversial is one of the keys to success. Pink sums it up so profound and simple:

“I decided at 15 that I didn’t want to be one of those artists that get up and sing love songs they don’t mean. I decided that I was going to be me to the fullest extent, that my songs were going to reflect relationships I’ve had, things I’ve been through, and even the stuff I’m embarrassed about”.

Only by being ‘me to the fullest extent’ will pure creativity rise to the surface as is shown in one of the most important and authentic songs that was created from a total alignment of purpose and being in complete self confidence.  No consideration or attention to the possible reaction of the outside world or possible return on investment; on purpose fabricated to suit the needs of the music market. No not at all. “Dear Mr President’ is an absolute tremendous awesome piece of art.

So thank you Pink for being true to yourself, for showing how to succeed. You rock. You’re Gold!!

KEYS TO SUCCESS WITH QUADREPLEGICS!!!

KEYS TO SUCCES S WITH QUADREPLEGICS!!!

Have you ever winged about the taste of your cappuccino? Have you used a few swear words when your DVD is not playing? Or when the weather is to hot…then check this out.

Polaris Media Group has just released an insane documentary about the Sadler’s Ultra Challenge Wheelchair Race called “Unbeaten”. The Sadler’s Ultra Challenge is a 267-mile wheelchair race from Fairbanks to Anchorage, Alaska.  Tremendous courage and self reliance is shown by Oz Sanchez (USA) ,Ernst van Dyk (South Africa) and Paul Nunnari (Australia). All participants from any level have overcome tremendous adversity and went on to achieve success in their careers as top athletes.

With huge honours I was privileged to meet both Sanchez (Gold Medal winner Olympic Games Beijing, China) and Paul Nunnery (Olympic athlete, winner of Sadler’s race) at a conference about building confidence and how to succeed in life; whatever your definition is about success. Paul Nunnari summed it up so beautifully:

“I don’t dwell on it; there’s nothing that I can’t do,” he said. “Since my accident, I’ve believed so strongly in living your life and embracing your dreams”.

“People’s limitations in any kind of disability are the limitations they put on themselves. If you don’t have any issues about it you don’t have any limitations”.

“Despite what may cross our path in life, having an inherent belief in your ability to achieve what you set your mind to is in all of us no matter what our situation.”

To me this is so profound and authentic. Are you still winging about your coffee?

ACHIEVING GOALS WITH 16 YEAR OLD JESSICA WATSON!!

January 13th, 2010 by yonika in Uncategorized

SELF RELIANCE..JESSICA WATSON IS AN EXAMPLE FOR ALL OF US!!

One of the keys to success is self reliance. When are people old enough to rely on them self and achieving goals that they always dreamed of? To me, age is not part of the equation. Take Jessica Watson as an example.  She received so much criticism for living her dream and hopefully succeeding. She is an perfect example of how to succeed regardless of the doom sayers.

16 year old Jessica Watson is gearing up for the most dangerous part of her solo round-the-world voyage.  The teenager is heading for the world’s most deadly stretch of sea, Cape Horn, relying solely on the headsail after suffering a problem with the mainsail.  Jessica Watson’s parents have flown to South America in the hope of catching sight of her as she rounds Cape Horn.

Cape Horn is notorious for strong winds, big waves, strong currents and icebergs. But despite admitting to being a “little bit on edge” because of the strong winds and cold, the Australian teenager is in good spirits and enjoying the challenging conditions. “The cabin temp has been sitting on 4C. The wind chill outside is really quite something. Handling wet lines on deck is just downright painful, but mostly I’m staying toasty warm in all my layers,” she said.

Jessica Watson is expected to reach Cape Horn early next week. If Jessica completes the trip around the world, she will become the youngest solo yachtsman to circumnavigate the globe.

“There are people out there who I suppose have their doubts, and rightly so because it’s a big, scary and possibly dangerous thing, but I am not here without self confidence,” Watson said.

In preparation for the race, the 16-year-old sailor hit a 60,000 tonne coal tanker off the coast of Stradbroke Island in pitch darkness. I came through the whole thing feeling pretty confident. I mean, I won’t play it down, it was a pretty scary incident,” she said. “But years of planning and learning obviously paid off.

She was shaken, but not stirred from her resolve to circle the globe alone.  In fact, she’s thus far found the accident to be an exercise in self-reliance. “The whole incident gives me confidence ..wow, I can actually handle this,” she told reporters. “It could have happened to anyone… I’m unlucky I suppose, but you also learn from it.”

Jessica is showing tremendous leadership and showing people around the world to live your life and chase your dreams…well done Jessica and thank you!!

ACHIEVE SUCCESS WITH THE LEGANDARY MR. JIM ROHN

January 10th, 2010 by yonika in Uncategorized

ACHIEVE SUCCESS WITH THE LEGENDARY MR JIM ROHN.

With great sadness we share that Jim Rohn, left us December 5, 2009 for a better place. So this blog is a tribute to one of my absolute favour mentors. “Jim, your legacy will live on”!!!!

Jim Rohn touched millions of lives over the past 46 years through his seminars, books, articles and CDs. He always stayed long after an event to shake hands, take pictures and sign autographs. I was very fortunate to see him perform in Atlanta and meet him in person on the Gold Coast in Australia. When I think of Mr. Rohn I think of self reliance and building confidence. He loved making a difference in people’s lives that was his passion and inspiration. Yet he was also a private man who kept a small, loyal and caring inner circle. He was a tremendous friend to those who knew him.

For more than 40 years, Jim Rohn honed his craft like a skilled artist—helping people all over the world sculpt life strategies that have expanded their imagination of what is possible and how to achieve success. Those who had the privilege of hearing him speak can attest to the elegance and common sense of his material. It is no coincidence, then, that he is widely regarded as one of the most influential thinkers of our time, and thought of by many as a national treasure. Jim authored countless books and audio and video programs, and helped motivate and shape an entire generation of personal-development trainers and hundreds of executives from America’s top corporations. He taught true entrepreneurship and leadership development from many different angles. A few famous saying from Mr Rohn:

Skills: Don’t wish it were easier; wish you were better. Don’t wish for less problems; wish for more skills. Don’t wish for less challenges; wish for more wisdom.
Growth: Don’t join an easy crowd. You won’t grow. Go where the expectations and the demands to perform and achieve are high.
Change: We generally change ourselves for one of two reasons: inspiration or desperation.
Activity: The few who do are the envy of the many who watch.
Success: Success is what you attract by the person you become

So here it is, with gratitude and amazing memories to Mr Jim Rohn…forever thankful for your amazing leadership!!

ACHIEVE SUCCESS WITH AUSTRALIAN HUMOUR!!!

December 20th, 2009 by yonika in Uncategorized

THE KEYS TO SUCCESS IS HAVING A GOOD SENSE OF AUSSIE HUMOUR!!!

When I migrated to this amazing country one of the most appealing things of the Aussie culture (besides so many other beautiful things) was its sense of humour. In business leadership, political leadership, communities and everyday life the Australian humour is one of the best around the world.

Australian humour has a long history that can be traced back to our origins as convict colonies. It is therefore no surprise that a national sense of humour quickly developed that responded to those conditions. This unique sense of humour is recognised (although maybe not always understood) the world over as being distinctly Australian. Our humour is dry, full of extremes, anti-authoritarian, self-mocking and ironic. In times of adversity (bush fires, flood, hail storm etc) this is one of the keys to success that has rebuilt so many families, communities and businesses. Aussie humour has really formed the foundation of the Aussie culture and its entrepreneurship.

Altough I love so many comedians, Dave Hughes is one the best: ENJOY!!!!

Australians can have a very black sense of humour. While in many cultures it is considered poor taste to find humour in difficult circumstances, Australians tend to look for this lighter side. This is perhaps our strongest reference to our brutal past, where humour was a means of coping with a bad situation. A (perhaps unintentional) example of this is the naming of the Harold Holt Memorial Swimming Pool in Melbourne after a Prime Minister who disappeared whilst swimming in the ocean in 1967.

Australians also have a strong tradition of targeting themselves as objects of humour. A regular on the stand-up circuit is comedian Steady Eddy, who has cerebral palsy and uses his disability as material for his routines. One of his gags talks about how hard it is for him to find love – whenever he sees a beautiful woman, he finds himself wishing ‘ …if only she had a limp’. Australians from ethnic backgrounds also use this type of humour very effectively. Television and stage shows such as Acropolis Now and Wogs out of Work have honed this form of humour to an art, with performers mocking their ethnic backgrounds and traditions. This is probably one of the reasons why many achieve success.  It is one of the characteristics of being a successful entrepreneur.

LESSONS WITH DR YUNUS….PART 2

December 14th, 2009 by yonika in Uncategorized

ENTREPRENEURSHIP…..THE ANSWER TO OUR PROBLEMS?

Is having a successful business just about wealth creation? Is achieving success only about financial freedom or would there be a deeper purpose about being entrepreneurial? Is there a deeper purpose about what we do?

Dr.Mohammad Yunus’s  (Noble peace prize winner) view is that many of the problems of the world remain unsolved because capitalism is poorly understood and poorly practised. The issue, he says, is not in the capitalist system itself, but in the hash that people repeatedly make of it. He completely rejects the common views, that capitalism is all about the bottom line. He says: “In this narrow interpretation we create a one-dimensional human being to play the role of entrepreneur. We insulate him from other dimensions of life, such as religious, emotional, political dimensions….Everyday human beings are not one-dimensional entities, they are excitingly multidimensional and indeed colourful. Dr Yunus thinks capitalism can – and should – enrich the whole person.

How true and profound! We are all connected. It’s only with the realisation of a multidimensional entity where the inner creativity of a human being can be fully utilised. We are therefore so capable. Entrepreneurship is of more importance when a multi-dimemensional interpretation is practised and will be the foundation of a strong multidimensional society. A successful business will therefore always obtain a deeper purpose than just creating profits. The integrity of the home based business I am involved in is of high priority to me as making profits will always be a bi-product of the real purpose of the service and value we provide to the society as a whole. It’s therefore that my passion for this home based business is founded in the deeper purpose of it.  Any business with a strong deeper purpose will be worth being part of and fighting for!

lESSONS FROM DR. YUNUS…part 1

December 9th, 2009 by yonika in Uncategorized

BUSINESS OPPORTUNITIES WITH A DEEPER PURPOSE!

Having my own home based business I am always very interested in general business and what the underlying motivation is for someone to step into the business world to ultimately achieve success; whatever the definition of success might be.  Whilst reading Richard Branson’s book (“Business stripped bare”; highly recommend it) about entrepreneurship I came across this interesting statement from Dr.Muhammad Yunus that I absolutely love

Dr.Muhammad Yunus is the Nobel Peace Prize winner 2006 and has pioneered an economic system that transformed the lives of millions. Muhammad is a proponent of ‘social businesses. He states:

Ordinary businesses are aimed at making money….there is no consideration of how people benefit; it’s all about making profits. Social business, on the other hand, is all about social benefits, not personal gain. Profits are important to social businesses, which seek to sell products at prices that make it self-sustaining. A social business is not a charity – but profits are not its ultimate goal. When a social business turns a profit, the original investors are repaid, but the rest of the profits stay with the company in order to achieve its long-term social goal of helping the poor.

Being entrepreneurial and involved in a business myself with a deeper purpose is so liberating and profound.  I could never be involved in an ordinary business as there is nothing more satisfying then helping other people and making a contribution or change in their lives. Forever grateful to Dr. Yunus for your effective leadership and the business that I am in.

THE ULTIMATE IN SELF DISCIPLINE..WATCH THIS MOVIE

December 4th, 2009 by yonika in Uncategorized

SELF DISCIPLINE WITH LANCE….UNBELIEVABLE!!!!!!

If we talk about high human performances there is probably one word that pops up in my mind and that is self discipline. One of the keys to success has to be discipline – no doubt. I have never seen or heard from a successful person without self discipline. Whether you talk about wealth creation, leadership development, financial success or Olympic gold medal performances, self discipline is one of the pillars of success

What Is Self-Discipline?

Self-discipline is the ability to get yourself to take action regardless of your emotional state.

Imagine what you could accomplish if you could simply get yourself to follow through on your best intentions no matter what. Picture yourself saying to your body, “You’re overweight. Lose 20 pounds.” Without self-discipline that intention won’t become manifest. But with sufficient self-discipline, it’s a done deal. The pinnacle of self-discipline is when you reach the point that when you make a conscious decision; it’s virtually guaranteed you’ll follow through on it.

If we talk about self discipline one name comes up in my head: Lance Armstrong! 7 times winner of one of the toughest races in the world, the tour du France. Below you can watch an amazing footage where Lance is preparing himself, with full self confidence, in the off season of the pro-circuit. Being a fanatic follower of the tour I know that most pro-riders will have a rest period during the time when Lance was in full self discipline, training in winter, in the Alps. Incredible. Please note the weather conditions. Most riders will use this as an excuse to stay at home; I cannot blame them, to be honest. Watch the movie and see for yourself…the ultimate in self discipline..ENJOY!!!

note: listen to Lance when he get told he cannot go any further.  I love it!!

THE FUTURE IS IN OUR “BEING” AS A PARENT!!

December 1st, 2009 by yonika in Uncategorized

BUILDING CONFIDENCE AS A PARENT

Being a parent myself (two young boys) I am very conscious about my behaviour and effect on the character shaping of my two little “monkeys”. Being a parent is the best thing in the world. The endless rumbles, playing trying tricks to each other and the endless questions about the happenings from a child’s world perspective is priceless.  Very consciously I praise my two boys as much as I can. It really builds confidence in their little minds. After I praise my youngest son (4 years), he often asks me: “are you impressed with me”? How beautiful!

Ray Burke states, “Praise is powerful. Praising your child is one of the most important things you can do as a parent. Praise is nourishment. It helps your child grow emotionally, just as food helps your child grow physically” (Burke, 1997, pg. 51). One could not have summed up what the effects of praise are any better than that. Praise is a method of keeping focus on the positive of any situation. Charles Schaefer’s’ book, How to Influence Children, states that praise is to give a “realistic, positive appraisal of a child’s performance” (pg. 230).

The reason behind giving praise is to build up self confidence, to give a belief of personal satisfaction, with the addition of feeling secure within one’s self (Hurlock, 1978, pg. 311). There is a sense of confidence that one has when one knows that someone has paid attention and has encourage them with a positive response, due to their efforts. Norma Cutts stated that praise makes you radiate “well-being” (Cutts, 1952, pg. 245). So in praising your child it will only encourage them to do well at whatever task they are faced with doing. It creates self reliance which is one of the keys to success no matter what they like to achieve (Burke, R., & Herron, R. (1996). Common Sense Parenting. Nebraska: Boys Town Press).

Anything we do and who we are towards our kids matters. For us, for them and for the next generation. Everything matters!!

GOING DOWNHILL…WITH GRATITUDE FOR HERMANN MAIER

November 26th, 2009 by yonika in Uncategorized

ACHIEVING SUCCESS IN VANCOUVER OLYMPIC GAMES 2010

Being a real ski ‘bum’ myself I am always super excited when the winter Olympics are coming up. My favoured event is, with no doubt the Alpine skiing (particularly the Downhill). Having skied the famous  world cup run in Kitzbuhl myself (not in competition but on my holidays, may I add) I do have some sort of an indication about the level of self confidence and self reliance the top skiers  must have in how to succeed when they go down these insane runs.

Alpine skiing has been practiced in the European Alps for at least 150 years. In addition to adapting cross-country techniques to suit their steeper slopes, alpine skiers also found they needed slightly wider skis to go downhill safely, and developed different ways to use their poles and new turning techniques to match the more vertical terrain of the high mountains.

Alpine skiing for both men and women debuted as an Olympic sport in 1936 at Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In 1948, separate downhill and slalom races were added. From that time, super combined was not contested at an Olympic Winter Games until 1988, in Calgary. The giant slalom was added in 1952, and the super-G in 1988.

The downhill event features the longest course and the highest speeds in alpine skiing. Each skier makes a single run down a single course. The fastest time determines the winner.

How to succeed for the Canadian team will probably come down to the right selection as there will be fierce competition within the Canadian team(Guay, Kucera, Hudec and Osborne-Paradis). Maybe this will lead to beating the Austrians. With the retirement of Hermann Maier, the Austrians will have to come up with a bunch of success strategies.  And what a super location for the Olympics, having great memories from Whistler myself. I just can’t wait

With gratitude for the legend Hermann Maier!!!!
